Assessing the environmental persistence of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) is crucial for minimizing the ecological footprint across every stage of a medicine's lifecycle. Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health prioritizes sustainability by integrating frameworks like Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) and Green Chemistry Principles into parasiticide drug design, mirroring human pharmaceutical development processes encompassing hit finding, lead optimization, and candidate development. However, early evaluation of environmental persistence of active ingredients faces challenges due to time-consuming methods with low throughput.
To enhance the assessment of environmental safety of parasiticides in the lead optimization phase, we are offering a fully funded PostDoc position at our Animal Health Research team. Researchers are invited to propose a research plan to the following question:
“How would you propose to set up an assay investigating environmental biotransformation kinetics of animal parasiticides during lead optimization to guide drug design?”
Successful proposals will focus on translating test results into practical data, improving assay efficiency, ensuring relevance to human pharmaceuticals, and outlining work plans, milestones, and decision-making processes.
As a researcher interested in contributing to the characterization and design of new parasiticides with improved environmental profiles you are invited to submit your complete application package, including your project plan, on our platform, opnMe.com. A panel of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health scientists awaits your submissions.
As part of an international team of highly skilled scientists within the Animal Health division of Boehringer Ingelheim in Biberach/Riss, Germany, you will gain valuable insights into the drug discovery process in the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to receive expert mentoring, attend prestigious international conferences, and publish your research in high-impact journals.
Apply soon as your applications can only be accepted if they arrive by July 2, 2025, 11:59 pm PST.
