New synthetic methodologies are constantly expanding the chemistry toolbox. Yet understanding how a promising method performs across medicinal chemistry-relevant substrates often remains challenging. Systematic reaction scope evaluation can help reveal its robustness, applicability, and broader potential.
To support this effort, Boehringer Ingelheim is launching the B-SMART Kit (Boehringer's Synthesis Methodology Assessment and Reactivity Test) on opnMe. We invite academic researchers developing innovative reaction chemistry, catalysts, activation modes, or synthesis technologies to challenge their chemistry against a curated panel of 96 medicinal chemistry-relevant aryl bromides – free of charge.
How would your novel synthetic methodology perform against 96 pharma-relevant aryl bromides at Boehringer Ingelheim?
We are particularly interested in proposals involving:
- Novel synthetic transformations using the B-SMART Kit substrates
- New catalysts, ligands, or reaction reagents
- C-C and C-X cross-coupling reactions
- C-H functionalization approaches
- Radical, organocatalytic, or biocatalytic techniques applicable to heteroaryl bromides
- Photoredox catalysis and electrocatalysis as standalone technologies
If selected, your chemistry will be tested by Boehringer Ingelheim scientists using the B-SMART Kit under standardized high-throughput conditions. You will receive a comprehensive dataset and a publication-ready report showing how your approach performs across a diverse panel of pharma-relevant substrates – with all data, results, and resulting IP remaining fully yours. Please note that no monetary funding is associated with this call.
