Boehringer Ingelheim’s open innovation portal opnMe has won the 2024 Best Practice Award at the recent 11th Annual World Open Innovation Conference (WOIC) at the University of California in Berkeley.
The event, launched in 2014, aims to bring together relevant decision makers from the areas of academia, industry, and policy makers. WOIC fosters cross-sector collaboration, explores open innovation trends, and showcases groundbreaking research and practices.
The award, which is determined on a combination of jury and public votes, evaluates open innovation approaches based on uniqueness, level of engagement, and relevance. Additional weight is provided to submissions that have demonstrated tangible results and are scalable and replicable.
Referring to opnMe, Prof Marcel Bogers, WOIC conference chair, and Ruperto Calatrava, Industry Track Lead at WOIC, stated, "This Best Practice stood out for its exceptional originality, fostering groundbreaking collaboration between academia and industry to tackle challenges in life sciences. Its innovative platform for open access to molecules and tools exemplifies the transformative power of open innovation. The initiative demonstrated remarkable results, with significant research outputs and global impact, serving as a model for the broader open innovation community".
“I am particularly thankful to our leaders who gave us the freedom and room to develop this open innovation tool. Without their strong mentorship, we would not be where we are today”, added Florian Montel, Head of Open Science.
